Healthcare Charter

Even though healthcare is not considered an area of municipal responsibility, the fact remains that the citizens of Midland are the users of the healthcare system. The quality of that system, as provided by the upper levels of government, has a direct bearing on the health and well-being of our community. If we were to lose any valued part of our local healthcare system, the very future of our community could be imperiled.

It is not surprising that, after the Local Health Integration Network announced that they may consider moving ophthalmology out of our area, citizens took notice. Some 500 seniors met at the NSSRC to give voice to what their healthcare system should look like. Over the summer months, other group meetings will be called to provide all interested citizens a chance to participate in defining our local healthcare needs - a Healthcare Charter.  Look for the next public meeting date in late July.
